Sci-fi B movies
A B-movie is a low budget film that contained a cast full of unknowns or non 'A-list' actors.
Themes of B-movies:

  • Dramatic
  • Large cartoon fonts
  • dramatic voice over / narrative
  • usually comic boo inspired
  • Damsel in distress

Genres of B-movies:

  • Science fiction
  • Horror
  • Thriller
  • Action

B-movies are usually shorter than A-list movies and tend to have little to no studio backing behind it. B-movies both new and old share some or all of the following characteristics:

  • low budget
  • unknown actors
  • offbeat premises
  • unpretentiousness

The difference between B-movies, cult movies and midnight movies is:

Rocky Horror is a cult favourite, which means it has developed a rapid underground and become more mainstream following: midnight screenings in movie theatre around the world. Originally this is what a midnight movie was referred to, but as years have gone on its new meaning stands for 'adult' (films contain sexual content or disturbing content), usually midnight movies are not approved by the MPAA. Where as a B-movie is a movie that had a small budget and a movie that didn't get much attention upon its initial release date.

A B-movie can be a cult movie and a cult movie can be a B-movie.
